This month’s coach of the month is Lori Michalski from Shabbona Park. Lori was nominated by one of her participants at the park. Here is what they had to say:

I am nominating Lori because she made sure that I felt welcomed to the Shabbona Park team when I joined them last year. Also, she has organized a lot of drive by birthdays for all the athletes on my team during these tough times. When I got nominated to be part of the Special Olympics Team USA to go ski in Russia in January 2022, she made sure that I got all the paperwork filled out. She also sends my team and I emails so we can keep track of all the virtual events that are going to happen during the week.”

“I nominated Lori because she is so great that I can’t put it all on one page. She made sure everyone had a birthday goodie bag for the drive by birthday celebrations that we have been doing at Shabbona during these tough times. Also, she always has a positive attitude when we come to practice and when we do virtual events and games on Zoom. She keeps everyone on my team on track with all the virtual events that we’re doing during the week. She is really fun to be around and is always available if anyone has any questions about anything. She is also really helpful when my team and when I don’t know what we need when we do the Minute To Win It games on Zoom.”

We love reading all of these nominations and hearing how far above and beyond coaches go to make sure all of their athletes are well taken care of and are staying busy during these times.
