Art and Music Therapy Progam:
We recently launched an art and music therapy program at four Chicago Public Schools. This pilot program provides weekly, in-person group art or music therapy sessions for students in special education cluster programs (K-12). The therapeutic artmaking and music programs have been adapted to meet the individualized needs of students at various stages of development. The creative arts therapies provide a platform for self-expression and invite non-verbal individuals to communicate through a creative medium. We are expanding this program to make it available in your school too!
If you’d like information on this program, please email us and include your name, phone number, and your school.
Special Olympics Chicago/Special Children’s Charities Grant Program for Coaches:
We have set up a grant of up to $2,000 to assist coaches in enhancing the overall athletic experience for our athletes and offset the cost of participating in Special Olympics sports training programs, events, and competitions.
We have grants up to $2000. Stay tuned for more information on grants for the 2022–2023 school year!
Chicago Park District Programs:
We sponsor a number of great programs organized by the Chicago Park District.
Adventure Club offers a variety of activities that many of our athletes and their families may have not yet had the chance to try.
The Chicago Park District’s Family Opportunities are fun options for our athletes to enjoy with their families. Some popular activities are archery, indoor rowing, golf, fishing, and bowling.
In January 2022, the Chicago Park District launched a new intramural program. The weekly clinics offer instruction for skill-building, scrimmages for teams, and coach development for both skills and teams. Each session offers great opportunities for all individuals with intellectual disabilities regardless of approval status for competitions. Equipment and uniforms are provided.
